In 2008 a limited number of pre-paid reserved spaces were available to groups with 10 or more cars. The 2009 event plans are in process and reserved spaces for clubs of 10 or more cars will be able to reserve again. Please contact the Chamber at 616-531-5990 for more information.
The Chamber provides the Metro Cruise® as a vehicle to put the spotlight on the vital 28th Street and surrounding business districts, tapping into West Michigan's 100-year old love affair with the automobile! The Chamber, itself a non-profit organization, utilizes the event to raise some funds for its own activities as well as the new Wyoming-Kentwood Area Chamber Foundation.
Other area Non-profit organizations may also apply to provide volunteer help for the event and earn community recognition along with the chance to earn some operating revenue.
You need to check your sources on that one because someone has given you some incorrect information.
- We may make a limited number of premium parking spaces available on a reserved parking basis as a courtesy to some Cruisers as a result of suggestions that we received from prior year events.
- Out of some 12,000-plus Special Interest Cars that participated in the Cruise in 2007, we had fewer than 300 reserved parking spaces in total at two shopping malls set aside as reserved in 2008
- That is less than 0.15% of the total spaces available on 28th Street and less than 6% of the total spaces available at the two main Cruise venues.
- All the rest of the parking at the Metro Cruise® this year was what 28th Street shopping is famous for - acres and acres and acres of FREE Parking!
We do not recommend overnight parking to reserve spots and cars that are parked in the event reserved areas will be asked to move.
Some lots may be subject to overnight parking prohibitions. We aren't 'patrolling' any lots for property protection and any cars parked overnight will be at the owner's risk. The police departments will be out, though, looking for unruly behavior.
In our 2005 Inaugural year, we had planned to host 500 to 700 Special Interest Cars and up to 2,500 Visitors to the area. That first year, we hosted 4,500 Special Interest Cars and more than 125,000 people!
In August 2006, the Metro Cruise® had 8,500 Cars and just over 185,000 Visitors! And our third annual event in 2007 ,our fist two-day event, hosted over 15,000 unique vehicles and over 230,000 event attendees. 2008 exceeded all expectations with over 15,000 vehicles and a crowd of over 300,000!
We have welcomed visitors from all over the United States and look forward to a great 2009 turnout. We'll welcome everyone who comes! Let's have a Great Show, Good Times and a SAFE weekend!
You know, you are absolutely correct about our Car Owners! We love every one of you and really admire the work you have put in to your gorgeous cars! We have heard this same phrase a number of times and believe it's originating from a single source. Your source is wrong. Please consider this,
- Very little is charged for at the Metro Cruise®. In fact, it's probably the least expensive thing you will do all summer long.
- The Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit association funded exclusively by the voluntary contributions of businesses and other organizations in the area, or by event fund-raisers.
- The Chamber's mission is Building Better Communities by Building Better Businesses.
- The Chamber is not a part of government and does not receive any funding at all from any government source.
- The Chamber has organized the Metro Cruise® as fun way to get the community to turn out and support the Local Businesses in the area in order to stimulate the local economy and help our local Jobs Providers, well - provide Jobs!
- Please support our Local Businesses with your business!
- Please thank and support the super companies that are Official Metro Cruise® Sponsors this year, especially! They made this event possible!
- The Chamber of Commerce invests a huge amount of TIME in preparing for and running the Cruise
- About 1,500 Staff Hours per year
- About 6,300 Volunteer Hours per year
- The Volunteer Committees meet twice each week from January through August
- The Chamber hopes to raise a small amount of money to fund its many activities in the area
- The average Visitor and Car Owner to the Metro Cruise® spends an average Grand Total of 11 CENTS on Cruise-related merchandise or fees.
- The Chamber, in fact, after organizing and operating the Metro Cruise® in 2005, 2006 2007, and 2008 has LOST about $10,000 in cash on the Cruise.
- It is expensive to organize and operate a moving automotive event in five different localities simultaneously and do it safely so that all may enjoy it - and so that we may do it again the following year.
- If it wasn't for the Wyoming-Kentwood Area Chamber of Commerce that has invested heavily in this really awesome event, there would be no Metro Cruise®!
One thing that you'll love about the Cruise - in addition to all of the awesome CARS that will be there - is the Fantastic 28th Street Shopping and Dining! There are many, many hotels and restaurants throughout the entire area, too - lots of them right on 28th Street!
For 2009, many of our local businesses are supporting the event. Look for the "Metro Merchant" decal at participating businesses and thank them for helping support this awesome event!

The 28th Street Metro Cruise ® is a project and activity of the Wyoming-Kentwood Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
We have a large and excited Committee full of very motivated people! We all have different assignments for various aspects of this large and exciting cruise event!
Committee members may and will be engaging in conversations with all kinds of vendors and will start preliminary negotiations, get prices, help determine quantities, etc. That's a big bart of our individual duties.
However, ONLY the Chamber President or the current Chamber Board of Directors Chairman may actually bind the organization, sign contracts or issue Purchase Orders, which will only happen after committee action.
2005 was the event's Inaugural year. We have utilized the vast experience of many local car clubs and other auto enthusiasts to run a well-organized event based on the successes of other similar shows and have learned a lot in our first four years! We are look forward to an even bigger and better Metro Cruise® each year!
